A second reason for seeking affiliation is to gain access to denominational resources such as Christian education materials, staff specialists, guaranteed low interest construction loans, camps, and retreat centers. This has been sufficient to cause congregations to seek "dual affiliation" with a second religious body. It also should be noted that scores of immigrant congregations seek to affiliate with a North American denomination while retaining their affiliation with the "mother church" in Samoa or Armenia or Korea or the Philippines or Germany or some other country.

Others defend it as a means of enhancing the cultural, racial, and ethnic diversity within a congregation as one site is located in a lower-middle class neighborhood and the other site in an upper-middle class neighborhood. In at least a few parishes this arrangement includes four or five sites, thus enabling one congregation to reach and serve residents of the larger community under one institutional umbrella. While this is something of a means-to-an-end issue, one of the fringe benefits of the multi-site arrangement can be the retention for many years of the staff member who would Eke to (a) preach forty-five Sundays a year, (b) carry few administrate burdens, and (c) concentrate on becoming a highly skilled specialist who can focus his or her energies largely on preaching and on one program responsibility, such as ministries with families that include teenagers or teaching or missions or social justice or pastoral counseling or young adults or adult Christian education or pastoral visitation.
