Shortly after this date all other ranks wore yellow, the officers wearing gold lace. Fig 12: Officer (undress), 1822 There were a number of differences between the full and the undress uniforms of this period. The blue undress jacket had a 3-inch deep collar ornamented with broad and narrow silver lace. Down the front were five decorated silver cord loops with roses on each side and a centre row of olivets. There was an edging of silver cord around the jacket and broad and narrow silver cord trimmed the cuffs, hips and welts.

The shabraque was like that of 1859, but now had two \-inch wide stripes of gold lace (^-inch apart) around the edge. The leopard-skin saddle cover was retained. In 1883, plaited gold shoulder straps with a small button near the collar were added to the tunic. The rank badges were moved from the collar and now worn on these straps. The rank markings were as follows: Colonel — Crown with two pips below Lieutenant-Colonel — Crown with one pip Major — Crown Captain — Two pips Lieutenant — One pip Second-Lieutenant — Plain shoulder strap For mounted duties knee boots with V-cut tops and gold bosses were worn with steel spurs.
